Markus has a background in fine wood craft, joinery and design and is passionate about creating functional art. Markus has such a love of surfing and so much appreciation for what surfing has given him that he is trying to give back by making beautiful timber veneer surfboards that go great and become heirlooms. He is giving back by using specialty Tasmanian timbers such as blackwood, sassafrass, king billy and huon pine that are crafted using methods and products that show great care for the earth and ocean. Most importantly, Markus wishes to share the joy and connection he has experienced since starting to ride timber boards; they just feels right.
Markus is also passionate about small spaces and makes bespoke, funky cabins he hopes will inspire people to get out into the wild more with the allure of a comfortable safe place to sleep. There will be various surfboards as well as a cabin on display over the festival weekend.
